Bell’s Reserve
Bell’s Reserve, an outdoor activities and event property, is 560+ acres of open fields, hardwood ridges, spring fed creeks, and scenic bluffs bordered by 20,000 acres of protected wilderness and one mile of the scenic Harpeth River, just 30 minutes from downtown Nashville.
The Land
We have miles of trails for hiking and biking along with picturesque, remote destinations for rest and relaxation or the perfect gathering spot for your group outing.
Our open fields are still used to harvest hay, and also managed for wild flowers and wildlife food sources, while our hardwood forest is under a Forest Management Plan focusing on Forest Stand Improvement to help control undesirable species preparing the stand for sustainability in the future as well as forest health and optimal wildlife habitat.
The History
In addition to showcasing middle Tennessee’s natural beauty, Bell’s Reserve is steeped in history. It is the namesake of Montgomery Bell, the early 19th century turfman and manufacturing entrepreneur who owned the land and in 1819 built the first “full-scale” tunnel in the United States to power his iron works.
Long before Montgomery Bell’s appreciation for the locale, our riverbanks were teeming with ancient Native Americans from 1000-1350 AD. The common sighting of bald eagles today as they hunt for fish, small game and turkey along our bluff-lined river makes it easy to visualize these early inhabitants doing the same.
Lastly, let’s not forget the appeal of our remote “hollers” through the not-so-distant past as moonshiners found the clear flowing springs were perfect for distilling their spirits.
